Please join us and Guest Teacher, Gen Kelsang Zopa, for this weekend retreat of teachings and guided meditations on compassion.
Compassion has incredible power to heal our mind, and to lead us to viewing our life in a completely different way. Compassion makes our life meaningful and our relationships healthier and more positive.
Although we already have some degree of compassion, at present it is very biased and limited. When our family or friends are suffering we easily develop compassion for them, but we find it far more difficult to feel sympathy for people we find unpleasant or for strangers. If we genuinely want to realize our potential by attaining full enlightenment, we need to increase the scope of our compassion until it embraces all living beings without exception.
Guest Teacher, Gen Kelsang Zopa
A Canadian Buddhist monk, Gen Kelsang Zopa has been presenting the profound and practical teachings of the Buddhist path for more than 20 years. He teaches a wide variety of classes in the Victoria region and is the Resident Teacher of Bodhichitta Kadampa Buddist Centre in Victoria. Gen Kelsang Zopa is renowned for the clarity and depth of his teachings, and his warmth and practicality bring to life the ancient art of meditation.
The Healing Power of Compassion retreat will be held at the Mount St. Francis Retreat Centre near Cochrane, conveniently located just northwest of Calgary.
Grounds: Situated on almost 500 acres, the retreat centre provides occasion to enjoy the beauty of the foothills, with a view overlooking the Rocky Mountains. Pathways on the grounds allow opportunities for reflection, exercise, and contemplation between meditation sessions.
Accommodations: Simple, private rooms contain a single bed, desk, and sink. There is no need to bring a sleeping bag or bedding: bedding and towels are provided. Bring any personal items and toiletries you may need.
Bring some good shoes and layered clothing for exercise and fresh air between sessions. We will bring our meditation cushions from the Centre, but if you prefer your own please bring it. Of course chairs are also provided.
Please be mindful not to wear strong scents. Some people are sensitive to perfumes.

Registration costs include:
- two nights private accommodation
- six vegetarian meals (beginning with dinner on Friday night at 6:30–we can cater to some dietary restrictions. Please advise us of your needs)
- guided meditation sessions before breakfast
- seven retreat sessions
- access to the retreat facilities and walking trails

If you cancel your retreat registration on or before October 26, we will refund your event fee less a non-refundable 25% deposit. We regret that we cannot give refunds for cancellations after October 26. Please contact the Administrative Director at AkshobyaAdmin@gmail.com to arrange the refund.
