We don’t want to make you a Buddhist,
we just want to make you happy!
Akshobya Kadampa Buddhist Centre is a part of the New Kadampa Tradition – International Kadampa Buddhist Union (NKT-IKBU). It was established by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso to bring a new spiritual life to the people of Calgary and Southern Alberta.
Everyone wants to be happy and free from problems and suffering, and Buddha’s methods for training the mind are the supreme way to accomplish this wish. Through increasing our capacity for loving kindness, developing wisdom, and training in meditation, everyone can live happier, more meaningful lives.
Geshe Kelsang’s presentation of Kadam Dharma is called “Modern Buddhism” because it is especially designed for the people of this modern world—it accords with peoples’ daily experience.
Everyone is welcome: Buddhist, aspiring Buddhist and non-Buddhist. Most of our General Program activities are offered on a drop-in basis and emphasize the integration of meditation and training the mind into our daily life. It is not necessary to abandon our particular lifestyle to put Buddhist methods into practice and change our lives for the better. Even putting the simplest of Buddha’s instructions into practice can bring great benefit to our lives, and so we offer these teachings freely and clearly.
At the same time, AKBC offers instruction and practice of the complete Buddhist path to enlightenment. Many people have become pure Kadampa Buddhist practitioners through studying and practicing at AKBC and other NKT Centres throughout the world.
